In addition to being Bali’s artistic and creative centre, Ubud is home to a fresh-food culture where health buzzwords dominate the cafe and restaurant scene. It has grown into something much more interesting than a simple lineup of smoothie bowls and salads
Natural ingredients combined with inventive preparations make feeding your body right a hobby rather than a chore in Ubud, especially with endless storefront options. So endless, in fact, we felt the need to identify for you which Ubud eateries offer the best ambience and, even better, pure, homestyle cooking.
Prepare to love healthy eating at a whole new level!
1. Zest
In Ubud, Zest is one of those places that fits the area in the best possible way. It is plant-based, open-air, full of character and surrounded by the kind of greenery that makes you slow down without trying. The food leans colourful and creative, but it still feels approachable, so it works just as well for a proper brunch as it does for a lazy afternoon meal when you are not quite ready to leave Penestanan.
What keeps people coming back is that Zest is not only about being healthy. It also has atmosphere. The setting feels social and slightly bohemian, and the menu has enough range to suit both dedicated plant-based eaters and people who simply want something fresh and satisfying. If you like your healthy food with a bit of personality, this is an easy place to start.

2. Alchemy
“Your body is a temple; to eat intelligently is an art”
With this mantra in mind, Alchemy operated in Ubud as a raw and vegan café, featuring a salad and juice bar, a health store, and a holistic clinic. Selling various probiotic juices, fresh produce, raw desserts and local aromatherapy products, this cafe certainly acts as your one-stop-shop for all things “health”.
Opt for a fresh, homemade smoothie (try their PB & J for a sweet treat) before moving over to the salad bar to create your own organic blend of mixed greens and unique toppings. The vibrant atmosphere and buzzing energy are a fun one for kids as well. Bring them to the lounge area in the back for harness-swing entertainment.

3. Moksa
This place is one of the strongest picks in Ubud if you want your healthy meal to feel like a full experience instead of a quick stop. Set in Sayan with its own permaculture focus, it has a calmer, more grounded atmosphere than the busier cafés in central Ubud. You come here when you want a proper sit-down meal, a slower pace and food that feels thoughtful from start to finish.
The menu is plant-based, but it does not feel limited. It gives you the healthy side of Ubud while also feeling connected to the landscape and the ingredients around it. It is especially lovely for lunch, early dinner or that kind of meal where you suddenly decide you are in no hurry at all.
- Location: Ubud II Kutuh, Jl. Puskesmas, Sayan, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571
- Hours: Daily, 9.00 a.m. – 9.00 p.m.

4. Sayuri Healing Food
One of the most recognisable healthy food names in Ubud is Sayuri Healing Food, and it has a very loyal following for a reason. The café combines raw and cooked plant-based dishes with that community-driven Ubud energy, people either adore instantly or end up staying for much longer than planned. It feels creative, slightly spiritual and very much part of the area’s modern wellness identity.
What makes Sayuri stand out is that it works for more than one kind of diner. You can come for a nourishing meal, a raw dessert, a late breakfast or an early dinner, and the place still feels lively. It is especially good if you want a food stop that feels social and current, not just healthy for the sake of being healthy.
- Location: Jl. Sukma Kesuma No. 2, Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571
- Hours: Daily, 8.00 a.m. – 11.00 p.m. (last order 10.00 p.m.
- Contact: WhatsApp via official website / @sayuri_healing_food
5. Kafe
Another staple on the Ubud fresh food circuit, Kafe is a well-known spot amongst seasoned locals for eating well, browsing wifi and sharing the latest yoga classes and events in association with The Yoga Barn. Founded on the principles of eco-conscious, sustainable living, Kafe’s motto is one of “Healthy food, yummy desserts, true espresso, great music… All in the heart of Ubud”.
I sampled “Meg’s Big Salad Bowl” (every veggie under the sun, with tofu-tempe crunch and toasted seeds served with tahini-lemon dressing. Yum!) and their special dragonfruit juice (dragonfruit, pineapple, lime) and left with a very full and happy belly. I highly recommend!
- Location: Jl. Hanoman No. 44B, Ubud, Bali
- Hours: Daily, 7.00 a.m. – 11.00 p.m. (last order 10.00 p.m.)
- Contact: +62 819 0711 8242 / booking@kafe-bali.com
6. CLEAR Café
Possibly the forerunner of Ubud’s organic restaurants, CLEAR Café is set in a gorgeous space that combines classic Balinese style with modern design. The ground floor provides plenty of seating and tall, bamboo supported ceilings, while the second story is a bit more intimate in its tree-house-like configuration.
You can’t go too wrong with the menu, with pages ranging from “Raw and Macro” and “World Flavors” to “Tonics and Elixirs” and “Cool Kids”. My favourite page is that of the Bali map highlighting the regions from which every ingredient originated from. Local cooking indeed!
For drinks, try their Jamu (Bali’s classic ancient ayurvedic drink with tamarind, fresh ginger, yellow and white turmeric) or Chai Iced Dream (homemade chai, cashew milk, with a hint of nutmeg). Note: They also have a front door Café Express if you’re just in need of a quick organic sweet on the go.
- Location: Jl. Hanoman No. 8, Ubud, Kec. Ubud, Kab. Gianyar 80571, Bali
- Hours: Daily, 8.00 a.m. – 11.00 p.m. (last order 10.00 p.m.)
- Contact: +62 878 6219 7585 / clearcafe@yahoo.com
7. Plant Bistro
One of the fresher names worth trying is Plant Bistro. The menu focuses on plant-based comfort food, pastries and desserts, so it works well for people who want something healthy-ish without feeling like they are eating only virtue for lunch.
It also has the kind of look that performs very well on Instagram, which is probably why it keeps popping up on current Bali food roundups. But the place is not only photogenic. It is a solid choice when you want a new-ish Ubud food stop that feels stylish, relaxed and easy to enjoy even if you are not usually the first person to order vegan pizza on purpose.
- Location: Blanco Museum area, Jl. Raya Campuhan, Sayan, Ubud, Bali
- Hours: Daily, 8.00 a.m. – 10.00 p.m.

8. Swatma Café
This Café is another newer-feeling addition that fits Ubud’s healthy side very well. It leans into clean, vegetarian food with Indian influence, and it has a calmer, wellness-led feel that suits Penestanan nicely. If you want something nourishing but a little different from the usual smoothie bowl circuit, this is a strong pick.
This place also serves people with more specific food preferences. Gluten-free diners, vegetarians, and anyone who wants a wellness café without a generic menu all have a good chance of finding something here. It is the kind of place that feels thoughtful without making a big performance out of it.
- Location: Jl. Penestanan Kelod, Sayan, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571
- Hours: Daily, 8.00 a.m. – 10.00 p.m.
- Contact: +62 878 4506 0251 / @swatmacafe
9. Tastes of Taksu
This place is a lovely bridge between Ubud’s wellness culture and a more relaxed restaurant experience. Set in a garden in central Ubud, it offers healthy options, local ingredients, and a peaceful atmosphere without feeling too strict about any one food philosophy. It is the kind of place that works equally well for brunch, lunch or a slightly longer dinner.
Taksu offers more variety while staying true to Ubud’s healthy-living side. If you want a spot with greenery, a gentler pace and a menu broad enough for different appetites, it deserves a place here.
- Location: Jalan Goutama Selatan, Ubud, Bali 80571
- Hours: Daily, 8.00 a.m. – 10.00 p.m.
- Contact: +62 811 3883 5555 / tastesoftaksu@taksu.co
10. Hujan Locale
If you’re looking for another local spots, you can try Hujan Locale. It leans more clearly into the local food with healthy dishes, but they’re not advertising the cafe as one. The menu is built around Indonesian flavours and locally sourced ingredients, but presented in a way that still feels polished and very Ubud. If you want local food with more depth and a little more occasion, this is the one.
The place gives you a proper lunch-or-dinner option. This is the kind of place you book when you want Indonesian dishes to be part of the trip, not just something you squeeze in between smoothie bowls.
- Location: Jl. Sri Wedari No. 5, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571
- Hours: Daily, 12.00 p.m. – 10.00 p.m. (bar until 11.00 p.m.)

11. Nusantara
Another excellent and trendy place to try is Nusantara. Run by the Locavore family, it focuses on the cuisines of the Indonesian archipelago and brings them together in a way that feels thoughtful, beautifully researched and still very approachable. It is one of the best places in Ubud to dig into local flavour properly.
This is not the place for a quick juice and a laptop session. It is the place you go when food is the evening’s plan. That makes it a very good way to close the list. After all the lighter, healthier daytime options, Nusantara gives readers a strong dinner choice that still fits the theme through its focus on local ingredients, Indonesian cooking and culinary depth.
- Location: Jl. Dewisita No. 09C, Ubud, Kecamatan Ubud, Kabupaten Gianyar, Bali 80571
- Hours: Lunch Tuesday – Sunday, 12.00 p.m. – 2.30 p.m.; Dinner Monday – Sunday, 6.00 p.m. – 9.30 p.m.
