Is Bali a good place to visit with kids?

We can be short and sweet: YES! Bali is great for families! The island is beautiful and diverse, not too big or too small. The locals are very welcoming and they absolutely love children. There is lots to do and many perfect family villas for you to reside at. You can base yourself in one spot and explore the island on fun day trips or you choose to spend a week in the busy south of Bali and another week in the quieter east, north, or west of the island. Either way, you are in for tropical beaches, waterfalls, Balinese temples, and all sorts of activities and attractions.

Getting Around in Bali with Kids

The easiest way to enjoy Bali with kids aged 7–10 is simple: keep transport comfortable and keep driving time realistic. Bali has taxis and ride-hailing, but the most convenient option for families is usually a private car and driver.

When staying at a villa, a private driver is easily arranged. Most likely airport pick-up and drop-off are already included with your stay, saving you the hassle of dealing with all the taxi drivers at the airport. Do ask your travel concierge about what’s included and what’s not. He or she can also help you to book a driver.

Best options for families:

  • Private car and driver: easiest for day trips, beach days, and “we need a snack break now” moments.
  • Bluebird taxi: reliable metered taxis in many main tourist areas.
  • Grab and Gojek: useful for short rides in town, though pick-up points and availability can vary by area.

Family planning ideas:

  • One main outing per day is often enough (kids enjoy it more when it’s not rushed).
  • Avoid scooters with kids unless the family is very experienced and fully set up for safety. Car travel is the calmer default.
  • Arrange airport pick-up in advance if possible, especially with luggage, snacks, and tired kids.

Where and what to eat

One of your private chefs at Villa Mannao

The locals like to eat rice or noodles with veggies, meat, and fish. The local eateries are called “warungs” and it’s where you will find authentic Balinese food, fresh and cheap. However, when traveling with kids in a foreign country, eating out and trying local food can be challenging.

There is no need to worry, though. In busy tourist towns and even quieter towns, you will find all kinds of restaurants serving Italian food (always easy with kids!), Mexican, Mediterranean, Indian, American, Chinese – you name it! There are family-friendly restaurants with playgrounds on-site and amazing beach clubs serving international cuisine.

When staying at a villa you will have a private kitchen where you can prepare something familiar for difficult eaters or prepare a quick easy lunch. You can also get the staff to prepare it for you. There is no need to worry about your kids getting hungry, that’s for sure.

It helps to keep a simple “family rhythm”:

  • Start the day with a reliable breakfast (villa breakfast or a trusted café) so everyone has energy.
  • Keep snacks in the bag: fruit, crackers, and something familiar for emergencies.
  • Use the villa kitchen when needed: quick lunches, early dinners, and “I’m hungry now” moments become simple.
  • Choose busy, clean-looking places when trying local food. Busy usually means fresh turnover.

Activities and Attractions Kids Will Love

Waterparks, playgrounds, close encounters with wildlife, underwater adventures, and endless beach fun. It’s impossible for families to get bored when staying in Bali. There are some great activities and attractions kids will love (and so will you!):

Bali Safari and Marine Park

Turtle Conservation Experience for Kids

Bali Safari and Marine Park has everything you need for a full day of fun with the kids. This is not just a zoo, it’s a huge entertainment park with wildlife to spot and animal shows to see. On top of that, there is a waterpark, attractions, and a petting zoo, which the kids will love. The Jungle Safari takes you to see animals from Indonesia, Africa and India.

You can also book a night safari adventure, which is exciting and thrilling. If you want to do the day safari, the schedule is typically 9am–5:30pm (check the latest schedule in their social)

Waterbom

Despite having access to a private swimming pool at the villa, a trip to Waterbom can’t be missing on your itinerary when travelling to Bali with kids 7-10 years old. They will love this water paradise with fun and scary waterslides.

Height restrictions apply on some rides, so check before queuing for the rides. Opening hours are typically 9am–6pm.

Trans Studio Bali (Indoor Theme Park)

Perfect when the family wants a high-energy activity without worrying about the weather. Indoor rides and attractions make this a practical “plan B” that often becomes plan A.

Rafting

A whitewater adventure awaits on the rivers of Bali. If you want to combine breathtaking, unspoilt scenery with thrilling activities, go rafting! You can do the track near Ubud on the Ayung River, or you can head to Karangasem in East Bali for the longest rafting track on the island. It’s perfectly suitable for kids between 7 and 10 years old as it is fun and safe.

Dolphin watching in Lovina

All kids love to go for a boat ride, right?! What if we say you can spot live dolphins at sea in the bay of Lovina in the north of Bali? Well, you can! Every morning at the break of day, traditional fishing boats set out to sea so you can witness hundreds of dolphins swimming and jumping in the air. It’s a magical experience your kids will love! During peak season it can get busy and it might be more enjoyable to take this trip a little bit later around 7.30 instead of 6 am.

Snorkelling and Diving around Menjangan Island

The underwater world is as stunning as the world above the water in Bali. Menjangan Island in the West of Bali is the best place to take the kids on a snorkelling trip or diving adventure.

Family cooking class

Don’t your kids love to help you out in the kitchen, adding the spices, and making their own creations? In Bali, you can follow a family cooking class and get your hands on ancient family recipes. It may also be possible to have the cooking class at the villa. Ask your villa concierge!

Family spa time

There are many lovely spas in Bali and some of them have special family packages such as Mom and Me, Dad & I, and Mini Me. You can have a manicure and pedicure together or a facial while enjoying a neck and shoulder massage. You will love it!

Ubud Monkey Forest

The Sacred Monkey Forest is located in the centre of Ubud – the cultural heart of Bali Island. After exploring the colourful city centre of Ubud and eating at one of the health cafes, stroll towards the monkey forest to surround yourself with ancient trees and curious macaque monkey tribes. Visitors are not allowed to feed the monkeys. But you can take selfies, and watch them hang around. It’s a fun place to visit with kids! Just remember to keep your belongings secure.

Wake Park

Bali Wake Park is the place to go wakeboarding, knee boarding, waterskiing, and surfing. It is located in the Bennoa Harbour and a trip to this place guarantees thrilling family experiences. It also houses Aqualand – one of the largest inflatable aqua park!

Beach Horse Riding

Sunset time is the magical golden hour in Bali. You can lounge at one of the beach bars on Seminyak Beach, sipping a cold coconut and gazing at this spectacle of nature but you can also go horse riding on the beach.

Surfing lesson

Bali is a great surf destination for both beginners and pros. If you want to learn how to surf together with your kids, go to Seminyak or Canggu for surfing lessons. Once you get a hang of the basics, you can simply rent a board and have fun with the waves for hours.

The Devdan Show

For an evening of Bali magic, do not miss out on the Devdan Show at Nusa Dua Theatre. Also known as the “Cirque du Soleil of Bali,” the Devdan Show combines music, dance, acrobatics, lights, fire, and beautiful costumes. You will be taken on a journey across the Indonesian Archipelago during this high-energy performance that’ll entertain the whole family.

The show runs on select evenings each week, and you can always check the schedule.

Where to stay in Bali with Kids Aged 7-10 (Villa Checklist)

For this age group, the villa matters as much as the itinerary. The goal is a base that makes mornings easy, keeps pool time safe, and supports early nights when needed.

Look for:

  • Pool safety: shallow area, clear visibility, or pool fence options if required
  • Space to move: lawn, garden, or open living areas kids can actually use
  • Bedroom setup that works for the family: practical layouts, not just pretty design
  • Air-conditioning where it matters (sleep is everything)
  • Staff support: meals, transport help, and easy logistics
  • Location fit: shorter drive times make day trips calmer
