Craft lessons in Bali

Besides cooking lessons, why not sharpen your crafting skills whilst in Bali? You could pick up a new skill and have a great family day out together, hand making the souvenirs you will love to take home with you.

Here are some of the crafts we think would be cool to take up:

1. Silversmithing at Studio Perak

Create some beautiful jewelry or little trinkets to take home with you during a half day silversmithing experiential course. During this 3 hour course, you can expect to create a silver ring or pendant of your very own design. Learn the basic skills of silversmithing, from cutting, beating, shaping, soldering and then polishing the finished silver product.

Children from 8 years and up are welcome, so the whole family can join in the fun to make a beautiful souvenir of Bali.

2. Batik at Nirvana Batik

Nirvana Batik offers a fun filled course from between 1-5 days, depending on how advanced you want to become at the art of batik painting. Batik is a technique of dyeing the cloth in various stages, through the application of wax after each stage to protect areas of unwanted color. The end result is beautifully patterned cloth.  The course at Nirvana Batik will walk visitors through the techniques of hand coloring and dyeing, as well as wax removal and at the end of it all, guests can take home a piece of wonderfully self dyed batik cloth.

3. Offering Making at Nirvana Batik

For visitors who want something less complex, or for families with younger children who might not grasp batik painting, why not opt for a fun filled day learning to make Balinese offerings, or Canang Sari. You see these exquisite baskets of flowers all around Bali, placed in little woven baskets. Learn to use colored dough, bamboo and carved leaves to craft these offerings.

4. Ceramics at Sari Api Ceramics Studio

To get a taste of a day in the life of a Balinese craftsman, opt for the half day course in ceramic making, where guests will be taught the techniques of hand building and wheel throwing. Clay, glazes and firing are included Do take note, though, that it takes a minimum of two weeks for your finished product to be ready, although it can be arranged for your finished work to be shipped home to you. Both adults and children will love this hands on experience, and the chance to create a personal piece of art.

5. Carving at WS Art Studio

Have you ever been to a restaurant and been blown away by the intricately carved fruit art? Here’s your chance to learn how to wow your dinner guests back home as well! With a lesson at WS Art Studio, the Balinese expert will teach you how to carve animal and plants out of a carrot or melon. Perfect both for adults and children. For something that goes deep into the heart of Balinese culture, they also offer mask and wood carving, both of which will allow you to make a one-of-a-kind piece of art that you can take home to be painted!
