Why should families stay in Seminyak villas?

Staying in a villa during your Seminyak holiday gives your family more space and privacy, offering a chance to truly bond, reconnect, and create lasting memories together.

kids enjoying the pool in a Seminyak villa

Seminyak villas offer spacious living and multiple bedrooms, making them ideal for families and groups. Most come with private pools and generous outdoor areas, giving kids (and adults!) plenty of room to play and relax.

Most Seminyak villas come with at least three bedrooms, with some offering up to six bedrooms or more. The extra bedrooms give kids their own private place to sleep and play, while parents still have easy access from the main living areas. The large living and dining rooms provide ample common space for family meals and activities together.

The private pools at Seminyak villas are a big draw for families. Kids can splash around to their heart's content while parents relax poolside. The pools offer a safe, contained environment for younger children while still providing fun and recreation.

The generous outdoor areas and gardens at Seminyak villas give kids room to run around and burn off some energy. Lawns, courtyards and shaded patios give families places to set up play areas, play sports, do yoga together or simply lounge on the grass. The outdoor cook facilities also make it easy for parents to prepare family meals al fresco.

The numerous restaurants, cafes and shops within walking distance of Seminyak villas mean there are plenty of activities and sights to keep kids entertained during your holiday. From playgrounds and kid-friendly eateries to shops selling toys, clothes and souvenirs, Seminyak caters well to families on vacation.

Why we love to stay in Seminyak

Seminyak is the place to stay in Bali if you want to be close to the action but still have a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of central Kuta. Seminyak has a thriving restaurant and nightlife scene as well as beautiful beaches - but its traditional Balinese culture still remains evident throughout the area.

Seminyak offers the perfect combination of a relaxing beach getaway and an energetic cultural experience. Here are the main reasons why travellers choose to stay in Seminyak and why you should too!

Why we love to stay in Seminyak
Why we love to stay in Seminyak

Seminyak's beaches offer a quiet alternative to the more crowded beaches of Kuta and Legian. The beaches in Seminyak tend to be less crowded with sun loungers and vendors, giving a more relaxed atmosphere. The white sand beaches stretch for miles, perfect for long beach strolls and swimming in the turquoise waters.

Seminyak is known for its vibrant culinary scene, offering everything from casual warungs to high-end restaurants. There are over 200 restaurants and cafes lining the streets of Seminyak, serving world-class Indonesian, Thai, Italian and modern Australian cuisine. Guests can sample the local specialty of Babi Guling (roast pig) as well as international fare.

The shopping in Seminyak is legendary, with everything from high-end boutiques to local artisan stores and markets. Guests can spend hours browsing through clothing stores, art galleries, jewelry shops and home decor stores. The famous shopping streets of Oberoi, Kunti and Jalan Kayu Aya are lined with stores catering to all tastes and budgets.

At night, Seminyak transforms into a lively nightlife destination with trendy beach clubs, bars and restaurants. Guests can relax with a cocktail while taking in the sunset views, or dance the night away to live bands and DJs. The nightlife in Seminyak offers a more intimate and sophisticated alternative to the full-on party atmosphere of Kuta. Additionally, you can reach Canggu, Ubud and Uluwatu easily if you want to explore other parts of Bali.

Why we love to stay in Seminyak
Families with children will find plenty to see and do in Seminyak while also having the comfort and convenience of a villa stay. Here are a few reasons why Seminyak is perfect for families.

Families will love spending their day at any of the beaches in Seminyak. The beach has soft and sandy bottoms, making it perfect for kids to splash around in. Just make sure you don’t go out when the waves are too strong. You'll also find lifeguards and beachside cafés serving kid-friendly meals and snacks.

If you need a break from the beach, visit the nearby water parks and indoor playgrounds, such as Waterbom Bali and Waka Waka Bali, which offer fun activities for all ages.

After a day of fun under the sun, you and your family can recharge together in Seminyak’s countless spas. These spas offer special family packages and treatments, giving parents and kids a chance to relax and unwind.

If you want to arrange a tour to explore other areas of Bali, Seminyak has many transportation options and tour services that cater to families.

  • Public transport: Public bemo buses run regular routes around the area, providing an affordable transportation alternative. However, the bus system can be tricky to navigate for visitors unfamiliar with the area.
  • Motorbike: This is one of the easiest way to get around Seminyak if you are confident in navigating Bali's traffic.
No matter how you choose to get around, Seminyak offers a range of transportation options to suit your travel needs and preferences. The convenient transportation makes it easy to explore and experience everything this popular resort town has to offer. We can also help you arrange a car rental service if needed.
Seminyak enjoys year-round tropical weather, making it a fantastic choice for a Bali holiday any time. The dry season from April to October offers the best weather to enjoy all of what Seminyak has to offer. This season is known as the "high season" as it is the busiest time in Seminyak, with ideal temperatures between 24 to 31 degrees Celsius. The beaches and resorts will be packed with tourists during this time, and prices for accommodation and flights might be more expensive. However, if you don’t mind the crowd and the extra costs, we suggest going to Seminyak during these months when the weather is perfect for swimming, sightseeing, surfing, hiking, and outdoor activities.

The wet season from November to March brings more rainfall and slightly higher humidity, but the temperatures remain warm. This "low season" is a bit less crowded and can offer better deals, though you'll see more rain. But hey, don’t let the rain stop you from having fun. The cheaper prices during the wet season mean it’s the best time for you to shop ‘til you drop, go cafe-hopping, and enjoy some spa time.
Seminyak's history dates back centuries, though the area remained relatively rural until the tourism boom began in the 1970s and 1980s. Located just south of Kuta and Legian, Seminyak had traditionally been home to rice fields and fishing villages.

The name "Seminyak" means "corner of the cloth" in Balinese, referring to the corner of a sarong. The first tourists to discover Seminyak in the 1980s were drawn by its quiet beaches and laid-back atmosphere compared to the party scene in Kuta.

As word spread about Seminyak, more and more travellers began visiting and eventually settling down. Luxury hotels and beachside villas began popping up, along with upscale restaurants, bars and boutiques. By the late 1990s and early 2000s, Seminyak had transformed into Bali's most sophisticated area, attracting a well-heeled international crowd. The beach promenade also began filling up with beach clubs, further cementing Seminyak's status as Bali's hotspot for beach life, shopping, dining and nightlife.

Despite the development, Seminyak has retained much of its Balinese charm. The streets are lined with temples, and traditional architecture mixes with stylish modern villas, making Seminyak the perfect blend of old and new.

How much does it cost to stay at a villa in Seminyak?

Villa rentals in Seminyak range from approximately $89 to over $4,000 per night. However, on average, you can find a villa from $200 to $400 per night.

Is it worth staying in Seminyak?

Yes! Seminyak is an excellent choice for a beach vacation in Bali, especially for first-time visitors. The convenient location, a wide range of activities and amenities, and upscale yet relaxed atmosphere make it worth a stay.

What are the best villas in Seminyak?

There is a villa to suit every taste in Seminyak, from traditional Balinese-style villas to modern villas close to the beach. The best villa for you depends on your preferences, group size, and budget. We can help you find the perfect Seminyak villa that fits your needs.

How big are Seminyak villas?

Seminyak villas range in size from 1 to 7 bedrooms or more. Solo travelers and couples typically stay in 1 to 2 bedroom villas, while families and groups of friends often opt for 3 to 4 bedroom villas. Larger villas are suitable for events and celebrations.

How long should I stay in Seminyak?

It depends on your travel preferences and how much you want to experience in Seminyak. For a quick visit, 1-2 nights is enough to sample Seminyak's beaches, dining and nightlife.

For a more relaxing stay, 3-4 nights allows time to truly unwind in a villa or hotel, explore multiple beach clubs, try different restaurants, and see a few cultural attractions. This gives you enough time to experience both the laid-back beach atmosphere as well as some of the cultural side of Seminyak.

For a more in-depth vacation, 5 nights or more gives you time to truly immerse yourself in Seminyak. You'll have the flexibility to wake up each morning and decide your plan without feeling rushed. You can dine at multiple restaurants, spend full afternoons at different beach clubs, shop for local handicrafts, and visit several cultural attractions like temples and museums.

Overall, we recommend staying at least 3-4 nights to truly feel like you've experienced what makes Seminyak special - the blend of beach relaxation, cultural exploration and excellent dining. Any less and you'll likely feel like you only scratched the surface of what this area has to offer.

Is there a Bali Travel Tax?

Bali’s tourism tax comes into effect on the 14th of February 2024, aimed at preserving its natural beauty and cultural heritage. For travelers, the new tourism tax means planning for an additional expense of IDR 150,000 (about USD10) upon entry into Bali. Every tourist needs to pay this, children are not exempted.

The new tourism tax applies to those visiting mainland Bali as well as its surrounding islands such as Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Ceningan.

The tourism tax is collected per entry, meaning if you leave Bali and travel to another part of Indonesia, you will need to pay the levy again upon your return to Bali.

How crowded does Seminyak Beach get?

Seminyak Beach is less crowded than nearby Kuta beach, though it does get busy during peak travel seasons. The southern end of the beach tends to be the most crowded, while the northern end remains more relaxed. Overall, Seminyak beach offers a more tranquil experience compared to other beaches in South Bali.
