Most Popular Areas for a Bali Villa in Uluwatu

Uluwatu offers some truly stunning scenery with its white sand beaches and clifftop vistas overlooking the Indian Ocean. You can also find many beachside cafes and some of the best beach clubs in Bali located in this beautiful area. If you plan to stay in Uluwatu, here are some of the areas you should consider:

Padang Padang. This is the best area to stay in if you don't have your own transport because it’s close to Padang Padang Beach. This spot is well-known for having the best surf and you can also swim in the shallow areas too. Make sure to stay along or near the main road of Jalan Labuan Sait, preferably around the middle or closer to the beach end of the street. The road is long and hilly, so prepare yourself for a bit of exercise if you choose to walk.

Bingin Beach and Suluban Beach. If you stay in this area, it’s best to rent a car as places in Uluwatu tend to be far apart from each other. Both areas have great restaurants, beautiful beaches and a laid-back atmosphere. You’ll also find many cliffside beach clubs like Single Fin and Ulu Cliffhouse around Suluban Beach and you’ll also be close to the famous Uluwatu Temple.

Ungasan Beach and Melasti Beach. The beaches in the Ungasan and Melasti area are quite remote but very peaceful. If you’re looking to be away from it all, this is the perfect place to make as your hideout. This stretch of coast is also home to some of Bali's finest beaches, alongside beach clubs such as Sundays, Karma and Palmilla where you can relax all day.

Balangan Beach and Dreamland Beach. More beautiful and secluded beaches can be found in this area. You’ll truly feel one with nature when you’re here and there are also plenty of surfbreaks in this area that are less crowded than Padang Padang. Make sure you rent a car too while you stay here.

Nyang Nyang. This is probably the most challenging place to get to in Uluwatu, however, because of its remoteness, it also has the least tourists and you’ll feel like you’re in your own secluded slice of paradise. If you plan on spending all your time at the beach, this is the spot to go to. Just make sure you stock up on groceries before you get to your accommodation.

Why We Love to Stay in Uluwatu

bingin beach

Whoever said paradise only exists in dreams certainly hasn't set foot in Uluwatu. Nestled on the southern coast of Bali, Uluwatu is an enchanting mix of breathtaking beaches, thrilling activities, and rich cultural experiences—making it ideal for families, groups of friends, and couples alike. Picture this: pristine white sands meeting turquoise waters at Dreamland Beach or Balangan Beach, where each stretch of shoreline seems like it was tailor-made for your Instagram feed. Whether you're riding gentle waves with the kids at Baby Padang or spending a blissfully relaxing day sunbathing, Uluwatu's beaches offer both adventure and rejuvenation in spades.

But Uluwatu is more than just a beach lover's haven. Families will adore the educational experiences offered by local cultural gems. The iconic Uluwatu Temple, perched majestically on a cliff, offers stunning ocean views and the thrill of spotting cheeky monkeys. As the sun sets, the temple comes alive with mesmerising Kecak and Fire Dance performances—an absolute must-see. For those craving adrenaline, parasailing, jet skiing and banana boat rides ensure thrill-seekers of all ages will be thoroughly entertained.

After soaking in the splendour of Uluwatu's many attractions, you can easily retreat to your luxurious villa and unwind in style. You can have a private chef prepare a sumptuous meal while you relax poolside, perhaps enjoying a stunning sunset over the ocean. And why not indulge further with a private masseuse to ease those adventure-weary muscles? If you feel like getting dressed up and going for a night out with your partner or friends, Uluwatu delivers with spots like cliffside dining at El Kabron and beach club vibes at Ulu Cliffhouse. Whether you're looking for relaxation, exploration or a bit of both, unforgettable memories are guaranteed to be made in Uluwatu.

Uluwatu offers families an ideal Balinese retreat with plenty of things to see and do together. Here are a few reasons why it's perfect for families:

Uluwatu is known for its stunning beaches with clear waters and white sand. Families can spend the day swimming in the shallow parts of the water, surfing, and building sandcastles together on the beach. The beaches are also lined with cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy meals with the kids.

If you and the kids are looking to try out surfing for the first time, you can book a surf lesson and ride waves at Baby Padang. Don’t worry, the waves here aren’t monstrous like in other parts of Uluwatu. You’ll be riding your surfboard on some gentle baby waves.

Aside from surfing, there are also many other water sports that you can try in Uluwatu. For the thrill-seekers in the family, you can try parasailing, jet skiing, banana boat rides and more as long as the weather and swell conditions are good.

Uluwatu is also home to several cultural attractions that offer educational experiences for the whole family. The 11th century Uluwatu Temple perched on the cliffside and the Kecak and Fire Dance performances in the evening are a must-see for the whole gang.

Your kids will also love seeing the monkeys in the temple, but make sure to watch out for your belongings – sometimes the monkeys like to poke a little fun and snatch whatever it is you’re holding.

After a long day of exploring and adventuring, you can retreat back to your villa and watch the sun go down as you soak in the pool. Have a private chef make a delicious supper for the whole fam, and if you’re really going all out, get a private masseuse too so they can ease your sore muscles.
You haven’t truly experienced the beauty of Bali until you visit Uluwatu in the south coast. Trust us when we say you won’t find more stunning beaches in Bali than along Uluwatu’s picturesque shoreline.

Dreamland Beach, Balangan Beach, Bingin Beach and Padang-Padang Beach – the names alone sound like paradise, and they truly are! Pristine white sands and turquoise waters stretch as far as the eye can see, with surf breaks perfect for catching waves, and scenery that just begs to be put on your Instagram feed! You can reach the beaches easily within a half-hour drive from your villa oasis.

Make sure to stop by Suka Espresso and Cafe La Pasion for some of the best beans and cafe ambience in Bali. Their coffee will surely brighten up your day and give you the boost you need to continue exploring the town.

Uluwatu offers so much more excitement beyond its beaches. Spend a family day exploring the many attractions, starting with the jaw-dropping cliffside temple of Uluwatu perched above the crashing ocean waves.

Then head to the sprawling cultural wonderland that is Garuda Wisnu Kencana Park. In the evenings, don't miss the spectacular kecak dance performance at Uluwatu Temple - it will leave you in awe! Both places are just a short 20 minute drive from your villa doorstep. Your villa manager can even arrange all the transportation so you can fully relax and enjoy!

Top off your delightful day with an unforgettable dining experience. Take in stunning cliffside views at El Kabron or dine elegantly overlooking the sea at Di Mare Restaurant. For beach club vibes, head to the famous Ulu Cliffhouse and enjoy a cocktail by the infinity pool floating over the Indian Ocean. Oh, and don’t miss out on Sundays at Single Fin! If you’re looking to dance the night away, Seminyak’s trendy bars and nightclubs are just an hour away down the coast.
Because places in Uluwatu are spread out pretty far, walking isn’t really an option when you’re here. However, the good news is that Grab and Gojek are available in Uluwatu. There are only a few areas where the apps may not work and that is mostly at the beaches and beach clubs around the Bukit. This area is strictly for taxis only, and Grab and Gojek are not allowed to pick you up from here. However, you can always walk a bit further up (about a 10-minute walk) to another area where pickups from ridesharing services are allowed again.

Your best bet for getting around Uluwatu is by renting a car or scooter (if you know how to drive one). For families, we strongly recommend hiring a car with a private driver (or if you want to drive it yourself, that’s fine too). This will make getting around Uluwatu and all the must-see sights around the area so much easier and hassle-free.
Choosing the best time to visit Uluwatu depends on your individual preferences and desired activities. The peak season (July-August) offers sunny skies and the best conditions for beach activities, but expect higher prices and larger crowds.

The shoulder seasons (April-June and September-October) provide a balance between pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and more affordable prices, making them ideal for exploring cultural attractions because you won’t have to wait in line as long.

The low season (November-March) coincides with the rainy season, offering the lowest prices and smallest crowds, perfect for budget-conscious travellers and those seeking a secluded and tranquil experience. Surfing enthusiasts also favour this season for its consistent waves and uncrowded lineups.
Uluwatu, located on the south-western tip of the Bukit Peninsula in Bali, Indonesia, is home to the iconic Pura Luhur Uluwatu temple. The region borders the Indian Ocean to the south. Uluwatu derives its name from the Balinese words "ulu" meaning end, and "watu" meaning rock.

Uluwatu was established as a premier surfing destination in 1972 following the release of the seminal surf film "Morning of the Earth". Directed by Alby Falzon and David Elfick, the film was a classic amongst enthusiasts, originally intending to showcase waves around Kuta Beach. However, after a few days of filming in Kuta, they discovered the uncrowded peaks at Uluwatu.

To access the surf, one must descend down from the temple cliffs and pass between two large rocks at the base to reach the secluded beach. In the early days there was no road, so surfers would carry all their gear to the isolated spot. At just 15 years old, Steve Cooney had the privilege of riding the first wave ever caught on film at Uluwatu for "Morning of the Earth".

The film's release on 25 February 1972 brought immediate international attention from surfers to the breaks. Today, Uluwatu remains one of Bali's most coveted surf destinations, hosting visitors from around the globe. Modern aerial videography now showcases the area's raw natural beauty from new vantage points.

Is Uluwatu worth going to?

Abso-freaking-lutely! Uluwatu is one of the most captivating places in Bali, and you would surely regret it if you didn’t make time to explore this gorgeous cliffside gem. Uluwatu isn’t just a surfer’s paradise, but a paradise for all.

You can easily spend your days relaxing on the beach and watching the surfers glide through the giant waves. There is also no shortage of excellent dining options, from restaurants serving local cuisine to beachside spots ideal for weekend brunch.

After filling up, you can browse the boutiques selling Balinese handicrafts and souvenirs. Come evening, the beach clubs are worth a visit for drinks with a view. Of course, you'd also be remiss if you didn't check out the spectacular Uluwatu Temple perched atop the cliffs. Watching the Kecak Fire Dance performance as the sun dips below the horizon is a truly memorable experience.

Is it easy to get a Grab in Uluwatu?

Grab and Gojek aren't quite as common in Uluwatu as they are elsewhere on Bali. However, these ridesharing services are still reasonably accessible. Just be aware that in certain areas of Uluwatu, such as Padang Padang Beach, Single Fin Beach Club or Uluwatu Temple, Grab and Gojek may be prohibited due to restrictions imposed by local taxi associations. Alternative options for transport in these locations would be to arrange a private transfer, or take one of the taxis affiliated with the syndicates.

How many days in Uluwatu is enough?

We would recommend staying for 2-4 nights as a minimum, but you could easily spend longer if you have time on your hands . The charm of Uluwatu lies in its laidback atmosphere, and it's hard to experience it with just an overnight stay. Spending a few days here allows you to fully unwind and appreciate everything this lovely area has to offer away from the busier tourist spots of Bali.

Is Uluwatu walkable?

Unless you intend to remain firmly planted within your accommodation's walls, renting a scooter or a car is really the best option for zipping between beaches, cafes and attractions. Everything in Uluwatu is just too spaced out for it to be walkable. Just be sure you're confident handling a scooter or car on Balinese roads before setting off, and don't forget to obtain an International Driving Permit so you're legal and safe. Alternatively, you can always hire a private driver to make things much simpler for you. If you need help arranging one, let us know and we’ll take care of it.
