Most Popular Areas for Lombok Villas

Lombok—so often overlooked in favour of its flashy neighbour Bali, but let me tell you, this island is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Imagine an island just as vast, but free from the throngs of tourists, its landscapes left gloriously unspoiled.

Kuta Lombok. If it's your first time on the island, Kuta is simply a must. This is the main hubspot for travellers because it’s the most convenient, with plenty of cafes, restaurants, and bars. It’s also close to where the surf is, so you’ll find plenty of surf schools around the village.

Senggigi. You’ll find more locals here than tourists, so if you’re looking to get well-acquainted with the local scene, this is the place to be. You’ll also find a good selection of restaurants and a few bars around the area. The black sand beaches in this area are due to the nearby Rinjani volcano, which also serves as a beautiful backdrop for your photos.

Gili Trawangan. Just a boat ride away, and you’re in paradise. With pure white sands and crystal-clear waters, Gili Air offers incredible opportunities for snorkelling and diving. Fancy a short hike? You can walk around the island in just a couple of hours, encountering coral reefs, turtles, and exotic fish along the way.

Tanjung. If exclusive living is your style, head to Tanjung. Here you'll find top-notch 5-star resorts, private beaches, and sprawling golf courses. Nestled in the north of Lombok, it combines luxury with family-friendly amenities. Trust me, whether it’s a traditional Balinese massage or a round of golf, you won’t regret staying here.

Why should families stay in a Lombok Villa?

Firstly, let’s talk about privacy. Imagine having an entire villa all to yourself. No shared facilities, no waiting for elevators, and no queuing for breakfast. Just you, your family, and the freedom to let the kids run wild in the garden or leave their toys and towels scattered around the pool area without a second thought.

Then there’s the space. Picture this: your kids each getting their own bedroom, and you and your partner finally enjoying some quality alone time in yours. Add a separate living room and dining area, and it feels just like home—only better. Gone are the days of feeling crammed together in one tiny hotel room.

Next up, the freedom. Wake up whenever you please, cook a delicious breakfast in your modern kitchen, and enjoy a lovely brunch outside, surrounded by nature’s beauty. Let the kids dive into the pool to their heart’s content. You can even request to have a floating breakfast in the pool—an experience that’s as unique as it is unforgettable.

Last but certainly not least, the flexibility. Your villa, customized exactly to your family’s needs. Need a night off? Our fantastic concierge team can arrange a babysitter. Want to explore all the attractions in Lombok? We’ll find you a driver. Throwing a birthday bash for your little one? We’ll decorate the villa to perfection. Even if you just fancy a relaxing massage but don’t want to leave your villa, we can have a masseuse come to you. Whatever you require, we’ll do our absolute best to make it happen.

So why should families stay in a Lombok Villa? Because it’s not just a stay; it’s an experience crafted to make your family vacation as perfect and stress-free as can be.

Why I Love Lombok...

Lombok's pristine beaches, rugged landscapes, and vibrant culture make it an ideal island getaway. I love staying in a beautiful beachfront villa or a cozy bungalow with stunning sea views. Relaxing on the powdery sands of Senggigi Beach, exploring the lush rice terraces, and taking a boat trip to the Gili Islands for snorkeling are some of my favorite activities. The food in Lombok is an absolute delight, with fresh seafood, spicy local dishes, and refreshing tropical fruits. Whether you're hiking up Mount Rinjani, discovering hidden waterfalls, or enjoying a sunset dinner by the beach, Lombok provides a magical and unforgettable retreat that perfectly captures the essence of tropical adventure and tranquility.

Why We Love to Stay in Lombok

selong belanak beach

We adore Lombok for its beautiful beaches where you can swim, surf, or simply kick back and enjoy the island life. While Bali steals the limelight, Lombok offers a tranquil yet exciting escape perfect for families, groups of friends, and couples. Picture yourself spending days on pristine white sands at Senggigi and Kuta. Here, the vibe is refreshingly laid-back—making it the perfect spot to unwind however way you choose. These beaches are not only Instagrammable but also perfect for dipping your toes into surfing. With friendly surf schools scattered around, everyone from the kids to the grown-ups can ride the gentle waves together.

And Lombok is not just about lazy beach days. If you're a fan of adventure and exploration, you'll find yourself spoiled for choice. Explore vibrant snorkeling spots or hop over to the Gili Islands for some stargazing and breathtaking sunsets. Gili Air is a family favorite with its relaxed atmosphere, allowing for afternoon walks or simply soaking up the serene surroundings. Back on land, you can get acquainted with local culture at the Sukarara and Sade villages, where you can learn the timeless art of traditional weaving—or even try it yourself!

For those of us who love a little thrill, Lombok’s natural wonders are something you just can’t miss. The stunning waterfalls in Senaru—like Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep—are a sight to behold, while a trek with Rinjani Dawn Adventures delivers breathtaking views from Mount Rinjani. If cycling through picturesque routes is more your pace, Lombok offers just that.

After a day packed with adventure, recharge with a superb lunch at Ashtari Restaurant, or pamper yourself with a relaxing spa treatment, or even a private masseuse in your villa. From bustling local markets like the one in Ampenan to lounging on Selong Belanak Beach, Lombok offers so much for you to do. Trust us, you’ll most likely extend your stay here, or book a trip back ASAP!

Bali might be the showstopping destination, but if you're longing for pristine beaches straight out of a travel magazine, Lombok is your ultimate family haven. Often overlooked, this hidden gem offers a magical escape that’s perfect for creating cherished family memories.

In Lombok, the atmosphere is delightfully laid-back—think more relaxation, fewer party-goers. It’s the ideal playground for families looking to unwind. Imagine lazy days on white sandy beaches with your loved ones, enjoying nature’s beauty away from the crowds.

Surfing in Lombok is a family affair. With waves catering to all skill levels, everyone can join the fun. Senggigi Beach, Kuta Beach, and the Gili Islands are sprinkled with surf schools and shops, making it easy to get everyone, from the youngest to the oldest, out on the water.

For an underwater adventure, snorkeling reveals a kaleidoscope of colorful fish and coral reefs. Rent equipment right by the beach or ask the concierge team to prepare some at the villa, and embark on tours to the top snorkeling spots around the Gili Islands.

Speaking of the Gili Islands, it’s also become a wonderful spot for families to spend a night over and go stargazing. Out of the trio, Gili Air stands out for families: more peaceful than Gili Trawangan but livelier than Gili Meno. The islands are tiny, so you’ll have to do a lot of walking. It’s perfect for your little explorers in training!

Back on land, immerse yourself in local culture by visiting traditional weaving villages like Sukarara and Sade. Watch locals create beautiful woven goods and maybe even try your hand at weaving. It’s a fantastic opportunity to teach your kids and see how different cultures sustain their livelihoods. You can support these local communities further by purchasing a handmade piece to take back home.
Lombok is more than just a serene escape; it's a treasure trove of activities that promise fun for everyone visiting this beautiful island. Here are a few of the things you can do if you find yourself in Lombok:

Visit an amazing Pearl Farm. Discover the beauty of the sea at Autore Pearl Farm and Visitor Showroom. Watch how lustrous pearls are harvested and crafted into exquisite jewellery. It's educational, mesmerising, and a touch of luxury all in one place.

Relax, swim and surf at the beach. Selong Belanak Beach is a gem on the south coast - perfect for beach bums and families. With its white sands, clean waters and local stalls, it's pristine. Lounge chairs await, and surf lessons are easy to join, turning any day into a mini-adventure.

Lombok's waters invite endless fun. Try kayaking, snorkelling, or tubing with Scuba Froggy. They make exploring the underwater world accessible and exhilarating for all ages. Some top beaches include Selong Belanak Beach, Tanjung Aan Beach, Mawun Beach, Tampah Beach and Pink Beach.

Take a cultural detour to Sukarara Weaving Village, where kids can watch local artisans at work. It's hands-on, colourful, and a fantastic way to introduce the little ones to the art of traditional weaving.

Adventure awaits at Senaru's stunning waterfalls. The trek to Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep is a mix of light adventure and natural beauty perfect for families. The sight of cascading water is sure to awe both the young and young at heart.

Experience the vibrant hustle and bustle of Ampenan's Kebon Roek Traditional Market. It's a sensory adventure full of colours, sounds, and the freshest local produce—an excellent way for you to learn about local culture.

For families who love the great outdoors, trekking with Rinjani Dawn Adventures is a must. Safely explore Mount Rinjani's stunning landscape and make memories that reach new heights.

Or you can go cycling through Lombok's picturesque scenery – it’s a fun, eco-friendly way to explore the island.

For some delicous lunch with a view, stop by Lombok’s famous Ashtari Restaurant. It's the perfect spot to recharge and take in Lombok's beauty. And when all is said and done, schedule a day spa visit or a private masseuse to visit the villa, and indulge in a massage to truly melt away any remaining stress. After all, isn't pampering a key part of island life?
There are a couple main ways to get around Lombok as you explore the island – by car, motorbike or taxi.

Car and Motorbike Rentals. Senggigi is the best place to arrange car or motorbike rentals. Or, to avoid the hassle, just call our concierge team and we can arrange everything for you. You can also rent motorbikes in Mataram. ‘Official’ rental companies tend to have a wider selection of vehicles but are usually pricier.

If you’re travelling with family or large groups, we recommend hiring a car with a driver. It just makes everything easier and you won't be on the hook if anything happens to the vehicle. If you do choose to rent without a driver, be sure to bring your international driving licence as it is required by local law.

Taxis. Taxis are easily available across Lombok and provide cheap, convenient transportation. Simply flag one down on the street. Within Mataram city and Senggigi, finding an empty cab shouldn't be an issue. However, in more remote areas - especially at night - it's best to call ahead for a pick up. All taxis use a metre so no need to negotiate the fare. You can take taxis anywhere on the island. Bluebird is a popular, trusted operator you can reach at +62 370 627 000.
The ideal time would be between May and June. The weather is glorious during these months - sunny days but not too hot, just lovely and warm. Plus there aren't as many people about so you can really appreciate the beauty without crowds.

July and August are the peak months. Loads of folks come for their summer holiday. And it ramps up again at Christmas and New Year when everyone wants to soak up some sun and escape the winter. You'll find prices go up at those busier times too. And the Gili Islands, gorgeous as they are, can get rammed packed with tourists. So if you're coming then, best book your room well ahead to avoid getting stuck without a place to stay.

Between October and April is considered the low season. Now don't get me wrong, it's still gorgeous. But a word of warning - the path up to lovely Mount Rinjani may be a bit too slippery when wet if you plan on hiking it. However, this is prime time for surfers with glassy offshore waves for them to enjoy. And you'll catch all sorts of local festivals happening too during these months.
Lombok’s story starts with the indigenous Sasak people, who crafted their lives amidst the island’s rugged landscapes and pristine beaches. They were the original settlers, living in harmony with nature long before the world caught on.

Fast forward to the 17th century, and like a storyline straight out of a historical novel, Lombok caught the eye of the Dutch. They arrived, claimed, and colonized, leaving their mark on the culture, architecture, and economy. But Lombok isn’t the type to be overshadowed. This island flaunted its natural beauty and strategic importance, becoming a jewel in the Dutch colonial empire.

Over the centuries, Balinese, Javanese, Sumbawanese, and Bugis influences blended with the Sasak traditions, creating a unique cultural tapestry. Picture a place where Hindu temples coexist with mosques, and traditional dances tell tales of both ancestors and deities.

In the 20th century, Lombok shook off its colonial yoke and embraced independence with open arms. It went from a quiet, underrated sibling to Bali to a rising star in its own right. Modernity brought infrastructure, tourism, and a global audience hungry for its unspoiled beauty and authentic charm.

Today, Lombok is like the ultimate hidden gem revealed—a destination that offers glitzy beaches, serene waterfalls, and vibrant cultural experiences. From surfing on pristine waves to exploring traditional villages, Lombok invites the world to indulge in its luxuries without the chaotic hustle of its famous neighbor, Bali.

What is special about Lombok?

Lombok, Indonesia, is known for its pristine beaches, lush forests, hot springs, and the majestic Mount Rinjani volcano. This beautiful island offers a more tranquil and less touristy alternative to Bali, with stunning landscapes and a rich cultural heritage waiting to be explored. From the famous Gili Islands with their white sandy beaches and vibrant marine life to the traditional Sasak villages where you can experience local customs and crafts, Lombok has something for every traveler seeking a mix of relaxation and adventure in an authentic Indonesian setting.

How many days in Lombok is enough?

Most people that come to Lombok for the first time usually stay a minimum of 5 days. However, if you have the time and the budget, we definitely recommend staying longer than that. A week to two weeks is plenty of time to discover all the beautiful spots on the island. Spend your paradise-filled days exploring one stunning beach after the next, surfing glassy waves, snorkelling with sea turtles, hiking up volcanoes for breathtaking views. One thing’s for sure though – you'll be sad when your trip is over… So stay however long you like!

Is Lombok nicer than Bali?

Both Lombok and Bali are gorgeous places well worth a visit, but it all depends on what you’re in the mood for. If you’re craving a laid-back vibe surrounded by nature and rich local culture, then Lombok is your go-to. But if you’re planning to pack your itinerary with a whirlwind of sights, events, and that irresistible buzz, then Bali is the place to be. But whichever place you choose, we’re sure you and your loved ones will have a top-notch time!

What is the best way to get to Lombok?

There are a couple easy options whether you're flying or boating over from Bali.

Flying is probably the easiest and most convenient way to go. It's a quick 40 minute hop on one of the many daily flights from Bali to Lombok. If you're not coming from Bali, you can also get direct flights from places like Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and even farther like Singapore or Perth. Flights from other places may have a stopover though.

If you'd rather take the boat, there's plenty of fast boat services running between Bali and Lombok every day. Just check where's most handy for you to leave from, book online and you're good to board. However, you should keep in mind that fast boat trips are not suitable for kids under the age of 2, pregnant women, and people who have heart or back problems or other physical impediments. The seas can get rough and the boat ride can be very bumpy.

But don’t worry, you can always take the public ferry, although it will take quite longer (about 4 to 5 hours from Bali). It’s also the most affordable option, so if you want to save on a few bucks and don’t mind taking a long scenic boat ride, this is the option for you.
