Best Things to Do in Tabanan
When in Tabanan, make sure to go up north, where you'll find some truly stunning rice terraces in Jatiluwih, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It's a pretty remote area, so going there will require a full-day trip. But the view is totally worth it! The rice fields are even bigger than Tegalalang in Ubud, and it’s less touristy too.
If you’re looking to have a solid surf session without a crowded lineup, make sure to visit Balian Beach and Kedungu Beach. With fewer crowds, you’ll be able to take in the natural beauty in peace. However, we don’t advise swimming here as the tides can be unpredictable. If you don’t surf, you can always watch the surfers while you dine at the beachside warungs and enjoy a cold Bintang.
If you’re travelling with kids, make sure to stop by the Bali Butterfly Park. Not only will they be fascinated by the beautiful fluttering creatures, but it will also be a great learning experience for them.
And of course, you can’t miss out on going to the famous Tanah Lot Temple. It’s one of Bali's holiest sites, perched on rocks surrounded by crashing waves. It does get manic there during sunset, but the views across the water are stunning, so it's worth visiting.
If you prefer to be away from the large tourist crowds, visit Ulun Danu Bratan Temple instead. It’s a bit of a drive from the main town, but it’s absolutely worth it. This place is especially magical during the rainy season when the water from the lake makes the temple look like it's floating. Locals believe the temple protects the island from the water and ensures the rice paddies stay fertile. Pretty cool, huh?
