The dry season, April to October, brings the most sunshine, especially June to August, and fits neatly with the UK summer holidays and October half-term. The wet season, November to March, has tropical downpours, quieter beaches and lush green landscapes. It's also a popular way to swap a grey British winter for warmer weather.
Most travellers fly to Bali from the UK with one stop, connecting through Singapore, Doha, Dubai or Kuala Lumpur before landing at Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS). British passport holders can get a 30-day Visa on Arrival (VOA) or electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VOA), extendable once for another 30 days. The visa costs IDR 500,000.
You'll also need a passport valid for at least six months from your arrival date, with at least two blank pages, proof of onward or return travel, and an All Indonesia arrival declaration completed within 72 hours before arrival. Bali also charges a tourism levy of IDR 150,000 per person. Check the latest UK government entry requirements before travelling. We can have a driver waiting at arrivals, with child seats if you need them.
Bali is generally a welcoming destination for families and groups, but it's worth taking the usual travel precautions. The main things to watch are petty theft in busy areas, road safety and strong currents on some beaches. Check the FCDO's Indonesia travel advice before you go. Our concierge can also arrange trusted drivers, licensed guides and experienced babysitters.
Speak to your GP or a travel clinic about recommended vaccinations at least a few weeks before travelling, and take out comprehensive travel insurance. You can also check TravelHealthPro's Indonesia health advice for current recommendations. Drink bottled or properly filtered water and choose freshly prepared food from reputable places. If you're travelling with children, we can arrange kid-friendly snacks before arrival and help you find English-speaking doctors if needed.
Traffic can be slow, and scooters aren't ideal for families. A car with a private driver is one of the easiest ways to explore Bali, and it's usually good value. We can arrange a driver for single trips or your whole stay, so you can move between temples, waterfalls and beach clubs without hailing taxis.
Nusa Dua has sheltered beaches and calmer swimming areas. Sanur is quieter, with shallow water along parts of the coast that's suitable for toddlers. Ubud offers rice fields and culture, though it's not the easiest with a pushchair. Seminyak and Canggu have great food and plenty to do, but their surf beaches are generally better suited to older children and confident swimmers. Tell us your children's ages and we'll suggest villas that fit.
Favourites include the Ubud Monkey Forest, Waterbom Bali in Kuta, snorkelling or a glass-bottom boat trip around Nusa Lembongan, a traditional Balinese dance performance and a walk through the Tegalalang Rice Terrace. Our concierge can plan these around nap times and jet lag, so you don't have to squeeze everything into one day.
For families and groups, a private villa in Bali can offer better value and more space than booking several hotel rooms. You'll have separate bedrooms, a private pool, a garden and living areas where everyone can spend time together. Many villas include daily housekeeping and staff, while breakfast or private chef services may be included or available on request.
Yes. Babysitters and private chefs are some of our most-requested extras, and many families book both: dinner is prepared while the children are looked after. We can also arrange in-villa massages, yoga sessions, birthday decorations and floating breakfasts. Just tell our concierge what would make the trip special. See what our concierge service can arrange.
It depends on who's coming. Families with young children usually want a fenced pool, baby equipment and a single-level layout. Multi-generational groups often prefer en-suite bedrooms and a mix of indoor and outdoor lounges. Groups of friends may want a large dining table, generous communal areas and space to socialise. Tell us your group size and wish list, and we'll shortlist villas we've inspected.
Our team is available 7 days a week to help resolve issues, whether that's the Wi-Fi, the pool or a last-minute change of plans. You can contact us by WhatsApp, email, phone or live chat. Bali is 7 to 8 hours ahead of the UK, so a message sent in your evening will often be answered by the time you wake up.
The cost of renting a villa in Bali depends on the villa's size, location, facilities and travel season, with prices displayed in pounds for UK travellers. A three-bedroom villa with a private pool can sometimes cost less than booking three separate hotel rooms, especially when travelling as a family or group.
Stays of up to a month are welcome, depending on availability and the villa's booking conditions. We focus on holiday stays rather than long-term leases. Deposit requirements, payment schedules and cancellation policies vary by villa, so we'll explain the terms before you commit to anything.
Yes, many families visit Bali with babies and toddlers. We can arrange a cot, high chair and pool fence on request, subject to availability, along with experienced babysitters. For days out, we can organise cars with appropriate child seats and recommend calm beaches and family-friendly restaurants. Breaking up the long flight from the UK with a stopover can also make the journey easier for little ones.
Bali uses Type C and Type F two-pin sockets, so bring a travel adapter for your UK three-pin plugs. The electricity supply is 230V, compatible with most modern UK devices, although you should check your appliance's voltage requirements. Our villas include Wi-Fi, and local SIM cards or eSIMs are widely available for mobile data. Check that your phone is unlocked and compatible before travelling.
Common mistakes include forgetting about Nyepi, Bali's Day of Silence, when the airport closes and travel restrictions apply; booking activities too far apart without accounting for traffic; skipping travel insurance; and choosing a villa without checking whether it suits children or older family members.
Our local team can help you plan realistic travel times, organise transfers and activities, and find the right villa for your group, so your first Bali holiday runs smoothly from the start.
