Most Popular Areas for Canggu Bali Villas

Berawa Beach, located on the west coast of Canggu, is known for its long stretch of black sand beach and surf breaks. Although swimming on the beach is not ideal due to the big waves, it’s a perfect spot to watch the sunset and surfers work their magic. This area is quieter than other beaches and is also family-friendly.

Pererenan Beach lies just north of Berawa Beach and is also lined with private villas. It is a little busier with several beach clubs, restaurants and surf schools, but still offers a beautiful sunset view that you can enjoy from the many day beds lined up by the shore.

Echo Beach is probably the busiest beach in the area, but if you want to learn surfing, this is a good place to go as it has the most surf schools. There are loads of healthy restaurants and chic boutiques around the area if you love to eat and shop.

Batu Bolong Beach is the most popular spot in Canggu for surfing and relaxation. Located at the end of the busy main street, it always has a lively atmosphere, day or night. Surfers and spectators alike love coming to this area because of the perfect waves and also charming sea-side restaurants.

Stroll through Echo Beach and sample the local cafes, each boasting their own unique flair. Shoppers will delight in the cute boutiques and artisan crafts, while those looking to unwind can indulge in a spa day or join a yoga session in one of the many renowned wellness studios. Perhaps a pottery class might be up your alley—or why not experience the local culinary scene by taking a Balinese cooking class, preparing traditional dishes with the help of a private chef?

When the sun sets, the magic of Canggu truly comes alive. Enjoy fine dining and live music at beach bars along the coast. You can really feel the relaxed vibes as the colours paint the sky. It's a gorgeous scene and the perfect end to the day in Canggu.

Canggu is a fantastic place for families with children of all ages. There are beautiful black sand beaches lined with great restaurants and cafes and plenty of family-friendly activities and attractions.

The beaches in Canggu all offer gorgeous views of the world-class Bali sunset where you can watch from the many charming beach cafes along the shore. You can also watch amazing surfers catch wave after wave, or if you and the kiddos are feeling adventurous, you can try surfing yourselves and hire a local guide from the many surf schools around the area.

If surfing isn’t quite your thing, don’t worry! There are many other watersports to do in Canggu. You can try stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, and even kitesurfing. And if that’s not enough to tire your kids, waterparks and adventure parks with ziplines and ATVs are just a short drive away!

If you’re not in the mood for strenuous activities, head over to Echo Beach instead and try out different cafes, shop for cute clothes, or indulge in a spa day. You can even go to a yoga studio or take a pottery class with the whole family! When dusk sets in, enjoy some fine dining and live music at any of the beach bars in Canggu. Many of them offer a kid’s menu, too, for picky eaters.

All in all, a trip to Canggu is the perfect recipe for a fantastic family getaway, offering a ton of activities and a laid-back feel that creates lasting memories for you and your loved ones to cherish.
Catch a wave at Batu Bolong Beach, a renowned surf spot with gentle breaks perfect for beginners. Numerous surf schools, like Tropicsurf and La Brisa, provide lessons and equipment rentals for all skill levels.

Cruise through lush rice fields and traditional villages on a rented bicycle or motorbike. Visit the Canggu Farmers Market for fresh local produce and artisan crafts, or browse the stylish boutiques and art galleries along Jalan Batu Bolong.

Indulge in Canggu's eclectic culinary scene. Savor authentic Balinese and Indonesian cuisine at Warung Dandelion, renowned for its mouth-watering nasi campur, or opt for a fine dining experience at Luma, with its elegant atmosphere and international menu.

Try a Balinese cooking class and learn how to prepare traditional dishes like babi guling (roast suckling pig) and bebek betutu (spicy duck) at acclaimed cooking schools like Paon, or in the comfort of your villa with a private chef.

Join an early morning or sunset yoga class at one of Canggu's renowned studios, like Samadi Bali or The Practice. Or visit one of the many spas near Echo Beach and have a rejuvenating pamper sesh.

If you want to embark on a short day trip outside of Canngu, you can book a guided tour to discover hidden waterfalls, rice terraces, and traditional villages. Visit the Tanah Lot Temple, only 15 minutes away. Or drive to Ubud and explore the Tegalalang Rice Terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for breathtaking natural beauty. If you need help booking a tour, just let our concierge team know, and they can arrange everything for you.

Venture beyond the beaches and experience the thrills of Waterbom Bali, a world-class waterpark with exhilarating slides and pools. Encounter exotic animals at Bali Zoo or interact with playful macaques at the Ubud Monkey Forest. These activities are perfect for curious and adventurous kids and those who are kids at heart.
Motorbike and car rentals are popular options due to the relatively spread-out nature of Canggu. Several rental companies offer motorbikes starting at around IDR 50,000 - 150,000 per day. However, if you need a car service with a driver for your family, just let us know and we can arrange it for you.

Grab and Gojek rideshare services are very accessible in Canggu and provide an affordable way to get around, especially for shorter trips.

For longer journeys within Canggu or to nearby areas, public minibuses are available. However, these can be crowded and routes are often indirect. They provide a cheap alternative if the other options are not feasible.

Taxis are also available but tend to be more expensive than Grab or Gojek. They are best used for trips to and from the airport or to nearby towns like Seminyak.
If you're looking to visit the lovely surf town of Canggu in Bali, the dry season between April and October is the ideal time to go. During these months, you can expect the sun shining, blue skies, and warm weather.

Be aware though that July and August are the most popular summer months, so prices for accommodation and flights tend to be higher as the island sees a bigger influx of tourists.

However, the trade-off is you won't need to worry about being caught in the rain like you might between November and March. But if the rain doesn’t bother you, then by all means, visit during these months, and you’ll see the rice paddies and lush jungles bloom to life.
Canggu was once a sleepy fishing village where folks lived off the land and sea. Now – it's a happening hub for tourism and entrepreneurship. While farming and fishing are still around, the influx of visitors has created tons of new jobs, empowering locals to jump into the tourism game.

Don't worry though, Canggu hasn't lost its charm. Those epic beaches and lush landscapes are still there, but now there's a whole lot more to do. From fancy restaurants and cool shops to yoga retreats and art galleries, there's something for everyone.

The locals are super friendly too, proud to share their culture and traditions with the world. They've embraced the changes, creating a dynamic and welcoming atmosphere that makes everyone feel right at home.

So, whether you're a seasoned surfer, a yoga enthusiast, or just looking for a relaxing place to spend your holiday, Canggu is always ready to welcome you with open arms (and so is Villa Finder).

What is Canggu, Bali best known for?

Canggu is renowned as Bali's top surfing destination, attracting surfers of all levels with its numerous surf schools and shops. Beyond its waves, Canggu offers a diverse range of accommodations, including boutique hotels, luxury villas, and cozy guesthouses. The dining scene is vibrant, with a variety of new restaurants and beach clubs catering to different budgets. Whether you're hitting the waves or enjoying sunset drinks, Canggu provides a well-rounded tropical lifestyle at competitive prices compared to other tourist spots in Bali.

Is Canggu worth it?

Absolutely - and that’s our completely unbiased opinion. The Canggu area has many lovely villas and homes. Some of our personal favourite restaurants, cafes and yoga studios are all found in Canggu. In fact, there are so many new stores and cafes opening up there, that you’ll never run out of new places to discover!

How long should I stay in Canggu for?

3-5 days is enough time to get a taste of what Canggu has to offer. This gives you enough time to explore the beautiful beaches, try out surfing, eat at all the cool vegan cafes and restaurants, visit the iconic sunset at Tanah Lot Temple, then unwind with a drink at a beach club.

What is the main part of Canggu?

The heart of Central Canggu lies along the bustling Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong road. This strip leads down to the well-known surfing spot of Batu Bolong beach. The nearer you are to the coast, the more restaurants, boutiques, bars and day spas you'll come across. Right next to it is the famed Echo Beach, where you can spend the afternoon lounging on a day bed while watching the waves roll by.

Which is better, Seminyak or Canggu?

That's a tricky one, even for those of us who have spent a lot of time here in Bali. Both areas have so much to offer, and you really can't go wrong with either location, so don't stress yourself out too much! You’ll have a great time regardless of what you choose.

Both Seminyak and Canggu boast fantastic restaurants, stunning private villas, and no shortage of quality cafes and boutiques. If this is your first time travelling to Bali, Seminyak offers an excellent base to get your bearings. It's lively yet relaxed. Alternatively, if green rice paddies, healthy eateries and boutique shopping are more your style, you'll love a villa stay in laidback Canggu.

How far are Canggu villas from the beach?

If you are staying at a luxury beachfront villa in Canggu, the beach is right in front of your doorstep. We also have villas that are more affordable but within walking distance to the beach. If the beach isn’t really your cup of tea, we have villas further inland, set amongst the rice paddies but still easily accessible.
