In Sanskrit, Vajra means diamond and Villa Vajra is a true gem perched on a rain forest-clad river gorge in the traditional Balinese village of Sebali, just fifteen minute by car from Ubud, the arts and cultural capital of Bali. This 3-bedroom luxury villa, designed by the internationally acclaimed architect Guy Morgan, offers an appealing blend of outdoor living and luxurious indoor comfort. In an effort to preserve Bali’s environment, Villa Vajra uses organic produce on their menu whenever possible, as well as an organic wastewater garden. It’s the ideal holiday retreat for families with grown-up children or small group of friends.
The queen-bedded master suite has sliding glass doors on three sides and a small balcony furnished with a daybed where you can enjoy your morning coffee while admiring the majestic views of the jungle, river valley and pool. Its large garden bathroom features a black terrazzo bathtub for two with jacuzzi fittings as well as an outdoor shower. Directly below the master bedroom, is the Valley bedroom with sliding glass doors that look out over the river valley, a queen-bed and ensuite bathroom with bathtub and shower. Both these bedrooms face east and are filled with forest-filtered sunlight in the mornings.The smaller, twin-bedded Sawah bedroom overlooks the rice fields and has an ensuite bathroom with marble floors and a shower.

Next to the living pavilion, the swimming pool and jacuzzi are set on a wooden deck furnished with sun loungers. A waterfall cascades gently into the pool, and the inviting Jacuzzi is perfect for romantic cocktails under the stars. Below the pool deck, you will find a fully equipped fitness room. A series of steps lead down from the pool to an outdoor pavilion for relaxing, meditation, yoga or spa treatments while listening to the sounds of the surrounding forest. The property descends all the way to the narrow river at the bottom of a steep gorge.
The access to the villa is through a passage that leads to a raised wooden walkway through uninterrupted rice fields, ensuring you of electrifying views from any part of the villa.
On the right side of the Lotus pond, you will find a study which also doubles as a media room. Equipped with a flat screen TV and a sound system that is connected to speakers throughout the villa and the grounds, books and board games. If needed, study that can be converted into an extra bedroom, creating a fourth bedroom with its own ensuite bathroom. The large windows surrounding the desk look out over the jungle and the living and dining areas below.
Located downstairs is the vast open-air living and dining room with lofty cathedral-like ceilings. The spacious living room features 2 chairs and 2 sofas with cushions, a large dining table for up to 8 guests, as well as a well-equipped kitchen for guests who wish to self-cater. At the far end of the living room is a semi-circular wooden terrace jutting into the forest.
The villa has a staff of ten. The manager will welcome you with warm Balinese smiles and make sure you have everything you need for an enjoyable stay. For meals, Villa Vajra offers an in-house menu with dishes that are prepared using fresh local ingredients and organic produce when possible. Two cooks can prepare a wide range of Asian and Western specialties.
Vajra Villas is located in a quiet rice-farming village, just a 15 minute drive from Bali’s cultural centre, Ubud, with its array of restaurants, shops, galleries, spas and cultural activities, easily accessible courtesy of the villa’s car and driver. Although, with an 8.5-metre swimming pool, fitness room, study/TV room, and lovely walks through the villa’s gardens to enjoy, you may not feel the urge to explore.
10/10We stayed here 5 years ago with our family and we still talk about how much we loved it. The staff was great and so helpful. The villa was beautiful and the food was great. It’s close to ubud and only took 5-10 minutes to get to the center of town. Loved every minute of the experience.
