Named after the tree of enlightenment, Villa Bodhi is less than 30 minutes from the centre of Ubud, overlooking an untouched river valley just north of Ubud’s luxury five-star resorts. Created by Hawaii born designer, Amos Kotomori, this lush, art-filled residence showcases several modernised joglo-style pavilions set within manicured tropical gardens and a saltwater pool with panoramic views. Perfect for multi-generational families and friends travelling together, Villa Bodhi is also an ideal spot for small wedding ceremonies and special celebrations.
Each one of Villa Bodhi’s four unique bedrooms is like a private suite and exudes an exotic rustic charm, decorated with hand-picked antiques from Asia.
Jaya House is a two story building located next to the entrance of Villa Bodhi. The ground floor offers a spacious living area with a TV, comfortable sofas and chairs and a daybed that can be converted into a large single bed upon request. It also has a guest bathroom with a beautiful marble bathtub and a natural stone washbasin. The upstairs master bedroom boasts a carved four-poster king-size bed, a writing desk and an ensuite with a stone bathtub and standing shower. From the balcony, you get lovely views of the gardens and jungle.
Sri House is in the style of a traditional Indonesian gladek house and is accessible by wheelchair. The room has two canopied double beds with crisp linens, a dressing area and a semi-outdoor ensuite bathroom with a small garden and generous rain shower.
Menala House is an adorable teak cottage from the nineteenth century, that has been entirely restored. It sits on the edge of the property with its own small fishpond and a covered porch overlooking the jungle. The bedroom has twin beds which can be converted to a double bed. The ensuite bathroom with a private garden has a stone bathtub and walk-in shower.
Laba House is directly beside the pool, and it has a large wooden deck with dramatic views of the surrounding jungle. The bedroom has a king sized four poster bed and the ensuite bathroom boasts a free-standing stone bathtub that sits underneath an open skylight that is partially covered by tree branches.
Go for a soothing swim in the 10 meter saltwater infinity pool that overlooks the jungle and the valley and relax on one of the sun loungers on the pool deck. Serene lotus ponds, vibrant tropical flowers, and manicured lawns surround the pool and living pavilion and stone pathways make their way through grassy expanses that lead to each of the four cottages.
At the heart of Villa Bodhi is a massive open-sided wooden joglo that serves as a living space and dining area. The decor is an impeccable mix of beautiful antique wooden tables and chairs, sofas with plush multi-colored cushions to relax on and admire the views of the gardens and jungle. A covered wooden bridge leads from the living pavilion to the dining pavilion furnished with a teak table that can seat up to ten people. Through decorative sliding doors, the simple kitchen is fully appointed for self-catering, with a five-burner gas stove, oven and large refrigerator.
The friendly staff will welcome you with genuine balinese smiles and are always on hand to make sure you have everything you need for an enjoyable stay.
Villa Bodhi is nestled in the quiet village of Bukian, in Payangan, just 7 kilometers from Ubud with its well-known cultural performances, shops and restaurants. The Elephant Safari Park is just 2 kilometres away from the villa and the excellent Bali Bird Park is a 30 minutes drive. Or if you’re after something more adventurous, white water rafting on the Ayung River is available just 10 minutes from the villa.
9.8/10Villa Bodhi was everything we had hoped for. Located away from the hustle of downtown Ubud, we had the peaceful jungle as our vista. The sounds of roosters, village kids playing football and the temple were just icing on the cake. Made, the manager, did everything to make our stay fantastic. Brilliant meals (loved the morning mixed juice) and an experience we won't soon forget.
10/10One of the best experience i had in bali ! The location, the staff and service were perfect. Had an amazing stay with my family anf friends, lots of space in the villa, beautiful decor, so much art and history. The view is breathtaking and the sounds of the jungle you are surrunded by takes you on a journey. The staff is amazing, really helpfull and nice, such good people really caring to make the stay just perfect! Thank you so much
9.6/10Villa Bodhi is a compound of villas set in peaceful countryside a short distance above Ubud. Before arriving I was a bit apprehensive that we would be isolated away from Ubud, but the tranquility of Villa Bodhi was a welcome relief from the bustle of the town. The garden is sublime ( a much overused word in reviews but in this case justified!) Every view is just perfect, every angle carefully curated and meticulously maintained. Our manager Made Sukadana made the holiday completely - friendly, calm& unflustered, anticipating every need. If you are lucky enough to stay there, have a chat with Made about what activities you are hoping to fit in & he will organise it all. In terms of service, the place is faultless: Gusti the chef cheerfully catered on demand for our crowd of 7 adults, including 1vegetarian & 1 vegan. The other staff organised laundry & housekeeping with a minimum of fuss. An added bonus were the thriving water gardens which hosted a fascinating community of frogs, fish and lizards. We hope to return to Villa Bodhi again and recommend it without qualifications!
10/10perfect stay, excellent staff and very discreet. Everything we expected
9.6/10Excellent location in the hills. Very welcoming staff, you can ask Made (the current manager) for a short history on hindu culture, he will be more then happy to translate it into english for you. The mansion itself is a beautiful mostly single storey house. The place is huge. You could build a volleyball court and still have space to plan a basketball game(slight exaggeration). The roof is imported from Java(100 year old antiquated teak) The owner(Hawaiian Japanese)is a fashion designer and his taste in aesthetics is beautiful. In every corner of the home there are plenty of unique objects. The singular complaint I have is, its cloudy, but being in the hills apparently it has more cloud cover then the normal base ground level villas. Love this place...
10/10Thanks for everything, we had a wonderful time and the service was great. Everybody was nice to us and the villa is just beautiful.
10/10Villa Bodhi is a peaceful retreat in Bali, with a very dedicated staff who allows you to organise absolutely everything! As a big family (8 adults and 4 children), we particularly appreciated to have our own privacy thanks to 4 separate small villas within the big one. The view from the swimming pool is gorgeous! I recommend the villa Bodhi for a relaxing holiday in Bali
10/10To Villa Bodhi Thank You so much for taking care of us on our trip! The staff is amazing and the accommodation are outstanding. Can’t wait to come back on a future trip, thanks again!
10/10We had a wonderful time staying at this lovely and peaceful retreat. Our song writing camp was a great success, we wrote many great new songs while having fun and relaxing. All the best, Michael Taylor & the 2nd annual Bali Song Writing Summit.
