Something so challenging nowadays comes naturally when spending time here on the island. We think Bali is one of the best destinations to travel with kids and babies. The island is not too big, life is (or can be) inexpensive, western products and services are available in the main tourist areas, travelling around is comfortable and affordable even with a private driver and there are many things you can see and do also when travelling with a baby.

Is it safe to travel to Bali with a baby?

Unlike some other far-away exotic places, you don’t need to stay in a resort in order to be safe in Bali. We feel Bali is the ultimate family destination. The friendly local Balinese people love children and they are known to be kind and welcoming to island visitors. All across the island, there are perfect family villas with private pools and homey living rooms with kitchens. Just what you need for your baby.

Some essential tips: Don’t drink tap water, and buy fruit unpeeled so you can prepare it fresh for your child. You can buy purified water in gallons, and if you want to be extra cautious, you can also boil the water before using it for formula, washing fruits, and so on.

Here are some tips to keep you safe and sound at all times:

Talk to your GP about vaccinations (did your baby have the regular vaccines or not, and what should be taken into consideration with this trip to Bali?).

Get good travel insurance. Always important and with a baby even more so.

Bring natural baby-friendly mosquito repellent (even though they have great natural oils, kayu putih, especially for babies in the local supermarkets).

Bring a natural kid-friendly sunblock (it’s expensive in Bali!)

Bring a sun hat and long light airy clothes with long sleeves to protect your baby from sun and mosquitos who are mostly active in the morning and at night.

Medicine

Baby food if needed. You won’t have much choice in Bali and most have sugar inside (luckily your villa has a private kitchen to cook up something fresh and familiar anytime).

Any necessary Baby formula in case you’re not breastfeeding. You might not have your brand in the shops in Bali. By the way, breastfeeding in public is totally accepted in Bali.

Sit in the shade when you can.

Hydrate at all times!

Flying to Bali with your baby

If you live far away from Bali like in the US or Europe, the long flight to Bali may be what dreads you the most. How to survive this with a baby? However, we found flying with a baby isn’t all that hard at all. Most likely, your baby will sleep a lot. You can even request a bassinet for your baby to sleep in. Cuddle, eat, sleep, repeat, play a little and you’ve made it to Bali!

Here’s a few small moves can make a long flight feel much easier with a baby:

Reserve a bassinet early (availability is limited and varies by aircraft).

Dress baby in layers: planes run cold, then Bali hits you with humidity.

Pack one “emergency kit” in your carry-on: spare outfit for baby, spare top for you, wipes, nappies, nappy bags, and one extra feed more than you think you’ll need.

Feed during take-off and landing if possible (it can help with ear pressure).

Keep expectations realistic: a calm flight is a win, a perfect schedule is optional.

Arriving in Bali

You can usually take a buggy (stroller) to the gate when you fly. Once you land, it’s typically returned at oversized baggage or on the baggage belt depending on the airport and airline.

A carrier is a holiday hero in Bali. Some tourist areas are getting better sidewalks, but the island is still not consistently stroller-friendly — and temples, markets, and waterfalls often involve steps. A carrier keeps day trips simple and lets you move without constantly scanning the ground.

Once you’ve collected bags and baby gear, you’ll go through immigration and customs. If you’re travelling with baby food or formula, allow a little extra time. The smoothest arrival day is the one with minimal rushing.

Airport transfer tip: If you’re staying in a villa, arrange your airport pickup in advance. It removes negotiation stress, and you can request essentials like:

a baby seat (availability varies, so request early)

extra luggage space for stroller and baby bags

a driver who’s happy to pause for quick snack or nappy breaks

Related article: How to Enter Bali Completely Stress-Free This 2025

Hospitals, Pharmacies and Supermarkets

Bali has international medical clinics and pharmacies in all main towns. For everyday supplies, you’ll find a mix of local supermarkets and larger grocery stores, especially in popular areas like Seminyak, Canggu, Sanur, and Ubud.

For baby travel, this is the practical reality:

Basic baby items are usually easy to find (wipes, nappies, simple toiletries).

Imported brands and specific formula can be hit-and-miss, so bring what you can’t switch easily.

If you’re using formula, use bottled/purified water and keep cleaning routines consistent.

If you want your days to feel effortless, staying in a villa helps. A kitchen means you can prepare familiar fruit, snacks, and simple meals anytime — useful when nap schedules and hunger don’t follow restaurant hours.

Related article: Travellers Guide: Hospitals and Medical Care in Bali

Bali Baby Hire

You’re travelling with a baby and you want to be well-prepared. KU DE TA & Potato Head

These are the two most famous beach clubs in Seminyak (and all of Bali for that matter!). You can expect comfy places to lounge, gorgeous views, great food and drinks and good vibes. Both places have a pool and restaurants. KU DE TA hosts special family Sundays every week which you should definitely go check out even if your baby is not old enough to join kids’ activities. To be surrounded by kids having fun is already fun!

4.
