Uber has arrived in Bali!

Tired of trying to decipher which Bali taxi company is legit and which one may or may not rip you off? So are we!

As residents ourselves of this crowded little island, we warmly welcome the arrival of Uber to Bali’s somewhat chaotic public transportation scene.

Uber AppFor those who are Uber-newbies, the company is one that functions as a ride-sharing initiative in over 260 cities worldwide. The concept is simple: you download the Uber application, request a ride wherever you are and receive a notification when your car has arrived. You can even track the GPS of the car to know exactly when to be waiting outside. Afterwards, you pay your fare via the bank account or credit card you have synced with the app.

No cash needed. No haggling for prices. Just a convenient and affordable pick up and drop off. Sounds pretty ideal right?

At the moment, the service area is mainly in Seminyak, reaching as far south as Jimbaran and the airport and as far north as Echo Beach in Canggu. As the app gains recognition amongst the Bali community though, we are sure to see the area cover more and more regions around the island.

While there is certainly a demand for drivers in Bali, it remains to be seen whether Uber can successfully tap into the surplus of local drivers that already exist here. If the app and necessary 3G/WiFi function seamlessly (which is always a big ‘if’ in Bali), then the market will become wide open for a new type of transportation to and from our favorite locales.

If you have never used Uber before, type in the code “RIDEBALI” to get 100.000 IDR off of your first ride!
