Living the sweet life in Bali

Bali is fast becoming popular amongst the those who have made it, and are looking for the luxurious and sweet life. Locations that particularly stand out are: Phuket and Koh Samui in Thailand, as well as Niseko in Japan and of course, Bali in Indonesia. Billionaires all over the world are flocking to purchase a piece of property in this hot location that is Bali.

Aren’t we lucky that Bali isn’t just a playground for the rich and famous? Bali is probably more accessible and affordable than other ‘exotic’ island destinations, so that all of us can enjoy the beauty of Bali as well.

In fact, Bali has attracted 7.9 million foreign tourists in 2012, and the most desired locations are in Ubud, Sanur, Nusa Dua, Jimbaran and Seminyak.  Bali has even won the 2013 best travel island destination award, beating out Mauritius and Tahiti. Now that’s quite an accomplishment!

What then are the top draws of Bali? Let’s look at some reasons.

1. It’s so beautiful…

The natural beauty of Bali is simply breathtaking. Between verdant rice fields, ancient volcanoes, and quaint traditional villages, we’re hard pressed to take a bad picture of Bali.

The landscapes of Bali are so varied, there is simply so much to explore. Catch the sunset on the peak of Gunung Agung, or explore the lush jungle valleys of Ubud. Witness the mighty Ayung river chart its course ever so steadfastly, or admire the calm, pristine Bratan lake. There is just so much natural beauty in one small island, it’s quite hard to imagine why anyone would not love Bali.

2. The tropical weather

Bali enjoys a warm, comfortable climate all year round, perfect for those who are looking to escape the bitter chill of winter back home.

Achieve a golden tan basking in the warm sunshine instead of freezing to death under layers of jackets. The weather in Bali is always comfortable enough for light cotton clothing, and pretty beach dresses. The tropical breeze is also light and cooling, especially at night.

3. Delicious food!

Bali is a haven for foodies. The dining scene is ever evolving and spans a wide range of cuisines, from local Indonesian Warung delicacies to international fine dining choices. The thought of some delicious Nasi Campur or crispy roast pork definitely makes me hungry!  Bali also has excellent restauants, especially in Seminyak and Ubud, with the likes of Ultimo, Sarong, La Lucciola, Sardine, Metis and Ku De Ta.

If you are staying in a private villa, you should definitely also opt for a romantic private dinner by the poolside. It is definitely an experience that you and your partner will treasure,. Imagine savouring a delicious spread prepared specially for you, by candlelight under a blanket of stars in the night sky, and in the privacy of your own villa. Definitely a special experience.

4. Tradition and Spirituality

In our increasingly secular and modern world, it is nice to chance upon a place where the magic of myth and legends still exist. The Balinese definitely keep their spirituality and heritage very much alive. In fact, they go to the extent of closing the whole island down once a year on Nyepi day. Bali is dotted with plenty of traditional temples, and celebrates many festivals and ceremonies with much aplomb. It is certainly interesting to witness these festivals, and also to chance upon the Canang Sari weaved offerings around the place. These beautiful little baskets of flower offerings brighten up every street corner.

5. Balinese Hospitality

Ah, of course, how could we forget the famed Balinese hospitality? The Balinese are a kind, gentle people who practice hospitality to all who visit their island. Wherever you go, you are sure to be greeted with a warm smile and a friendly face. This is especially so as we venture into the countryside, and the traditional villages of Bali. Children frolick around without reservation, and the Balinese will always go the extra mile to make a guest feel welcome. We would definitely do well to learn from them.
