Located in the peaceful yet happening Batu Bolong area of rural and dreamy Canggu, awaits the amazing holiday retreat Villa Umakayu. Villa Umakayu, translating to 'wooden house', comprises 5 antique wooden Javanese houses and a large communal living space circling a wonderful tropical garden with a lagoon-like swimming pool. The villa offers a total of 9 bedrooms, making it a perfect haven for groups of friends or large families seeking a traditional getaway on Bali island. Staying in an authentic Javanese house adds a soulfulness to your stay indeed and it is also a perfect venue for yoga retreats.
Villa Umakayu boasts 5 authentic Javanese wooden houses called ‘Tekuk Lulang’, hand-picked by the owner herself on the island of Java in Indonesia. These soulful, rustic traditional houses have their own story and they are set around the communal garden and pool. Each of them has their own private entrance and verandah to sit and enjoy some quiet time. There are four 2-bedroom houses and there is one 1-bedroom bungalow:
Rumah Geladak A romantic 1-bedroom Gladak house crafted out of decades-old teak wood. The bungalow enjoys amazing views over the rice paddies.
Rumah Gerobok A beautiful green hand-painted house, complete with 2 bedrooms, a living area and kitchenette.
Rumah Kebun This Upper floor ‘Farmers House’, features two bedrooms flanking a private living space with a kitchenette and a veranda with breathtaking rice paddy views.
Rumah Nenek Translates to ‘Grandma House’ and it comes complete with dining area and pantry.
Rumah Sapi Translates to ‘Cow House’ as it was used as a stall. Both rooms feature a fridge and coffee maker and the two rooms share one spacious veranda.
When driving on Jalan Batu Bolong, Villa Umakayu already stands out from the roadside. A private lane leads towards the wooden gate that gives access to the communal house and the gorgeous tropical garden. The stunning free-form swimming pool forms the heart of the estate, surrounded by lush tropical greenery and colorful flowers.
The communal living space of villa Umakayu features a breezy open-plan design and it overlooks the garden and rural rice paddy surroundings. The pavilion is decorated with gorgeous antiques, hand-painted tiles and traditional artifacts. There is a large communal dining table for family gatherings and there are several seating areas to relax with a cup of tea or a good book.
The villa is fully staffed with a dedicated, attentive team, welcoming its guests warmly and taking great care of them during their stay. There is a daily housekeeping, personalized guest assistance and night security.

Its a fantastic place and not only the view, but also for the people who work here and ready to take care of the guests.
Thank you for the loveliest stay in Bali. Everything was just perfect! Above all the traditional and authentic interior and details you can find here. The view, pool, garden and terrace seems just like a little paradise. A big thank you to you, Theresia, for having us as your guests, and not to forget the always friendly and helpful people here.
What a nice stay it was. We loved the design, interior and decoration, a lot of inspiration for our own house :) The view is lovely and it was the best place to relax. The best thing about Villa Umakayu are the people who work there. So friendly and always willing to help. Thank you so much for the kindness and smiles. We will recommend Umakayu to our friends and family.
