Villa Umakayu, translating to 'wooden house', comprises 5 antique wooden Javanese houses and a large communal living space circling a wonderful tropical garden with a lagoon-like swimming pool. Villa Umakayu boasts 5 authentic Javanese wooden houses called ‘Tekuk Lulang’, hand-picked by the owner herself on the island of Java in Indonesia. These soulful, rustic traditional houses have their own story and they are set around the communal garden and pool. Each of them has their own private entrance and verandah to sit and enjoy some quiet time. There are four 2-bedroom houses and there is one 1-bedroom bungalow:
Rumah Geladak A romantic 1-bedroom Gladak house crafted out of decades-old teak wood. The bungalow enjoys amazing views over the rice paddies.
Rumah Gerobok A beautiful green hand-painted house, complete with 2 bedrooms, a living area and kitchenette.
Rumah Kebun This Upper floor ‘Farmers House’, features two bedrooms flanking a private living space with a kitchenette and a veranda with breathtaking rice paddy views.
Rumah Nenek Translates to ‘Grandma House’ and it comes complete with dining area and pantry.
Rumah Sapi Translates to ‘Cow House’ as it was used as a stall. Both rooms feature a fridge and coffee maker and the two rooms share one spacious veranda.
When driving on Jalan Batu Bolong, Villa Umakayu already stands out from the roadside. A private lane leads towards the wooden gate that gives access to the communal house and the gorgeous tropical garden. The stunning free-form swimming pool forms the heart of the estate, surrounded by lush tropical greenery and colorful flowers.
The communal living space of villa Umakayu features a breezy open-plan design and it overlooks the garden and rural rice paddy surroundings. The pavilion is decorated with gorgeous antiques, hand-painted tiles and traditional artifacts. There is a large communal dining table for family gatherings and there are several seating areas to relax with a cup of tea or a good book.
The villa is fully staffed with a dedicated, attentive team, welcoming its guests warmly and taking great care of them during their stay. There is a daily housekeeping, personalized guest assistance and night security.
Nestled in the rice paddies of Canggu in the south of Bali, guests can enjoy the best of both worlds. The most happening hot spots of the island are just a short drive away yet guests also get to see Bali's natural untouched landscape, quieter beaches and rural life. Batu Bolong is a peaceful yet upcoming area of Canggu. In walking distance of the villa there are lots of charming coffee café’s and excellent little restaurants found. On Sundays, guests can explore the nearby markets such as Love Anchor and Samadi. The happening beach vibes or Echo Beach are also close by. For live music, drive down to Old Mans on Friday evenings.
